Following almost two years, the French Government and the Deputies have now agreed on a huge plan to promote the use of e-bikes in France. After the investment of millions of euros in cycling infrastructure, Parliament has now approved an increased budget in favor of sustainable mobility. This will result in the establishment of subsidies to assists in the purchase of a e-bike or bicycle. A total of €5 million has been added to the already existing budget to finance this.
A long list of bonuses
Concretely, since August 15, the financial aid for an e-bike purchase has increased from €200 to €300. This measure is now accessible throughout the country. The ebike bonus is even more important for less-able and disabled people as the amount has been raised to €400. For special bikes, like an e-cargo, an increase of €1000 will be introduced.
These measures are not only restricted to electric bikes. Indeed, the French authorities have also decided to extend the bonus for disabled people to all regular bikes. When they buy a regular bike, the most vulnerable will have access to a bonus of €150. This category will also benefit from an extension of the bonus for special bikes, which will be increased to €2000. Moreover, the creation of a financial aid for purchasing folding bikes has also been created, covering 40% of the cost, up to €1000.
Replacing a car for a bike
The measures voted by Parliament also includes a set of bonuses when replacing an old car with an e-bike. From now on, when scrapping a car, consumers will be able to access the conversion bonus, up to €3,000 for each person in a household. This used to be €1,500 previously and was valid for only one person. The amount of the bonus is limited to 40% of the acquisition price.
In addition, the French authorities have chosen to make a new step for employees. They now have access to a bonus of €800. This amount is the result of the combination between the Sustainable Mobility Package and public transport reimbursement.
